It’s very easy to get caught up with fad diets. Perhaps someone we know has had tremendous success with a particular diet. Maybe you’ve tried numerous diets and failed. This can leave you desperate to try any diet. Conforming to a “specific” diet and discovering it didn’t work for you is terribly demotivating! Initially maybe you had some weight loss or increased performance endurance, but those victories were short lived or just not sustainable. When you are putting forth your best effort and are unable to achieve the result your hard work deserves, that’s your body’s way of telling you “hey I’m not being fed correctly... HELP…I need more nutrients”. The key for a successful diet is being able to identify, listen and adjust to what your body is telling you. Think about it this way, some people have food allergies and can’t eat nuts, where others can eat nuts by the pounds. Dietary needs vary on a case by case basis. What diet works for one does not often work for all. Many times people think “we are what we eat”. Partly, yes, we are what we eat. However, in order to become what we eat we really have to ABSORB what we eat. Your body needs to be fed the proper nutrients in order to operate at YOUR optimal ability.
With that in mind, let’s start the New Year off right! Instead of forcing yourself into a fad diet or specific way of eating, take time to listen to your body and invest some time learning what it needs. Feeling and looking your best go hand in hand with fueling your body properly. Our bodies are NOT designed to sacrifice one for the other. The best investment you can make is in your health. We have a lot of life to live, why not be the healthiest, most vibrant person you are designed to be. Our bodies are astounding and unstoppable machines, once we learn to listen and take care of them the rewards we feel and see are TREMENDOUS!
To get started here are a few delicious drink recipes that work for my body’s energy demands:
1 spoon of loose leaf green tea
¼ tsp. fresh organic grated ginger
½ tsp. cinnamon
½ fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 tsp. local raw honey (optional)
Steep all ingredients together for several minutes until you get your desired flavor.
1 large organic orange
1 small very ripe frozen banana
1 tsp. raw vanilla bean powder or pure vanilla extract
1 cup of coconut milk (any raw nut milk works too)
¼ cup raw walnuts
1 tsp. raw, organic spirulina
Blend all ingredients in a blender until creamy.
Cheers to a healthy start for 2015,
