Healthy Holiday Treat Recipes
During the holidays we are surrounded by S-S-S-O-O-O many tempting treats! The best way to avoid those little stubborn temptations is to have easy, delicious treats made from real whole foods. It is better to eat a lot of the real food treats than to eat ANY of the processed or sugar loaded treats. It’s not that you CAN’T enjoy the treats, you just have to enjoy the treats that your body can metabolize as nutrients!
So, to get you along the way here are a few of my FAVORITE festive treat recipes:
1 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
2 tsp. coconut oil
3 tbs. of raw cacao powder
7-10 dates (or just use 2 tablespoons of local raw honey depending on how sweet you prefer)
½ cup cacao nibs
2-3 tsp. of 100% organic peppermint extract
3 tbs. of hemp seeds or a protein of your choice that will taste well in a sweet treat J
½ cup soaked walnuts (i.e. soaked for 4 hours in warm temperature water)
Blend the dates in your food processor or blender until they are creamy and smooth. Then mix all other ingredients in a bowl and add your dates. Once batter is mixed thoroughly, make them into small balls and place in the refrigerator for a few hours. (I LOVE to roll mine in raw maca powder or shaved raw cacao.) Once they firm up, you have amazingly delicious peppermint balls!
2 ½ cups blanched almond flour
¼ cup local raw honey
2 tsp. coconut oil
½ tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla bean powder
4 tsp. coconut flour
Mix all ingredients with a hand held mixer or regular mixer. Make sure to line your cookie sheet with parchment paper as the dough tends to stick. Place the dough on the parchment paper just like you would for a regular cookie (1 inch or so mounds of dough). Bake at 350 degrees for about 7 minutes. Optional: drizzle some raw honey on top and/or sprinkle on some shaved cacao nibs…DELICIOUS!
I hope these treats get you started with some healthy options as we kick off the holiday season. Stay tuned for more DELICIOUS holiday recipes next week!
