Rate your Mental Strength…
If you’ve recently competed, made a big presentation, participated in tryouts for a sports team or league, had an important job interview, taken an exam…
Whatever recently took you to your deepest mind space, how’d it go? Did it turn out the way you’d hoped, planned or envisioned?
If your mind failed you, what did it look like?
If you were just shy of what you’d hoped for, where was the breakdown?
Did you do your best physically?
If so, how did your mind handle it? Did it push you harder, help you settle for the middle, guide you straight to the comfortable, or take a risk?
Did your mind win with you? Did your mind lose with you?
If you had two chances or a time limit, what happened on your first try? If it didn’t go well, did you have enough time to succeed on your second attempt?
There are so many components to the mental game and preparation is key. When you are in that big moment your mind takes over more than 90% of the time. If you were prepared and your body COULD do it, why did you fail? How could you not have done it, succeeded, won, at the most important and precise moment?
All of these answers and questions are based on your self-confidence, self-esteem and self-worth. That’s where it all begins.
These self imposed ideas are taught and really do begin to develop inside of us from an early age in our lives. It doesn’t mean we can’t change them or alter our belief systems around them. But, it takes patience with ourselves, first, and then hard daily work.
Go back to the big moment, what was your conscious mind telling you? Did you listen? You CAN change the way you talk to yourself. It’s a journey, but completely possible, almost anything is, if you put your mind to it…that’s a cliché, but it’s also a fact!
In the end the pay-off can be EPIC! But, you gotta believe!
