CROSSFIT KIDS FIVE CITIES

 

PROGRAMMING

For the most part, no two workouts are the same, so kids and teens never get bored and the novelty of each workout keeps them excited about participating.

The functional movements involve exercises that are fundamental to all things that kids need to do when they play—pull, push, run, throw, climb, lift and jump. All of the movements are taught safely and effectively under the close supervision of thoroughly trained CrossFit Kids Five Cities trainers.

When fitness is defined as broad, inclusive and general, it means that participants will become well-rounded athletes who will be better at any and every sport that they play because CrossFit Kids Five Cities doesn’t coach them to be good at just one thing.

Our workouts will increase physical competence in 10 fitness domains: cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy.

With workouts that are scalable, CrossFit Kids Five Cities can equally benefit a less-active person or an accomplished athlete by tailoring workouts so that each participant is challenged just enough to deliver measurable results and personal athletic progress.


PROGRAM GOALS

Skill development

CrossFit develops broad, general and inclusive fitness. The program prepares kids for any physical contingency. Looking at all sport and physical tasks collectively, CrossFit is designed to enhance universal motor recruitment patterns. Building on functional movements, physical skills and adaptations, our program is intended to give all kids a performance advantage in any physical challenge of their choosing. CrossFit’s specialty is not specializing.

Regular, healthful physical activity

CrossFit athletes are trained to perform successfully at multiple, diverse and randomized physical challenges. CrossFit maximizes neuroendocrine response, developing power, cross-training with multiple modalities, focusing on functional movements and developing successful diet strategies.

Improved physical fitness

CrossFit is a core strength-and-conditioning program. The program is designed to elicit as broad an adaptational response as possible. CrossFit programming is intended to optimize physical competence in each of the 10 recognized fitness domains: cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, coordination, agility, speed, balance, and accuracy.

Support for other subject areas

CrossFit Kids Five Cities is committed to developing the whole child. Its methodology provides opportunities for cross-curricular education. Examples include the following:

  • Science as it relates to levers, force, distance, time and power input.
  • Math support using percentages, averaging, addition and metric-to-standard measurements.
  • Health education in its support for healthy body image and provision of nutrition and exercise knowledge.
  • Language arts as kids are encouraged to keep journals and track progress of individualized goals.

In addition, studies have proven the direct correlation between physical activity and higher academic test scores, improved classroom behaviors and reduced classroom disruptions.

Self-discipline

CrossFit Kids Five Cities begins with the introduction of basic functional movements with the focus on mastery of skill development. This process encourages the child to set goals and be disciplined in the areas of self-scaling, equipment and movement safety; body awareness; and individualized programming.

Stress reduction

The endorphins produced by the brain during physical activity inherently reduce stress and anxiety levels. Moderate to Vigorous Physical Activity (MVPA) also increases coping skills, emotional stability and self-esteem.

Strengthened peer relations

CrossFit Kids Five Cities is taught in a group setting. Kids are expected to encourage and support their peers in the pursuit of attaining individual goals. The expectation is that peers will celebrate the success of their classmates as well as support each other by partnering, strategizing and ensuring overall safety.

Improved self-confidence and self-esteem

CrossFit Kids Five Cities quickly realize they are capable of more than they thought possible. They are motivated by their fitness gains, which often occur daily, and they leave the fitness experience feeling good about their accomplishments. In the CrossFit environment, children are celebrated on the basis of their effort regardless of where they fall on the fitness continuum.

Experiencing goal setting

CrossFit employs the S.M.A.R.T acronym in supporting kids to set short- and long-term goals in regard to their fitness. Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely is the rubric that is used in their fitness journals to determine monthly, weekly and even daily targets that empower them to move toward their long-term fitness goals. Daily, kids log their fitness pursuits, track their own gains and celebrate their successes. CrossFit Kids Five Cities can be an integral part of any physical education curriculum. The lessons not only align with state and national standards, they teach kids the ultimate goal of lifelong fitness and how to be better movers and gives them the foundation to succeed in any sport or activity of their choosing. Most importantly, CrossFit Kids Five Cities provides students with the knowledge of fundamental movements, discipline, attainable goal-setting skills and positive self-image, all essential to the complete wellness of a child.
